How to Create a Social Media Marketing Strategy

Social media is a constantly evolving spectrum however most of the foundational steps you need to succeed stay the same. The essential gist of it is following the same steps you would to create a marketing strategy but narrowed to a specific channel. Follow these steps and apply them to your business:

Step 1: Research and Identify your audience

The first step in any marketing campaign is to determine who your buyer personas and audience are so you can target their needs and interests appropriately. Focus on the people you are trying to reach and how you would classify them as a group, by considering these groups and audience, you'll then be able to determine what content will attract the type of followers and customers you hope to gain.

Step 2: Decide which social platforms you’ll use

As a social media marketer, it's crucial you determine which platforms you're going to share your content on. As an extension of Step 1, when identifying your audience, you need to also focus on the needs of your target audience as well as on which platform they spend most time.

Step 3: Create unique and engaging content

With the billions of social media users out there your content must stand out and be engaging for viewers. Take advantage of the analytic tools offered by the platform; check out what your competitors are up to and what content is a hit on their socials;  re-post your customers' content, when relevant, and encourage them to share their experience on your socials too; see what trends are relevant and get on board that train.

Step 4: Organize a schedule for your posts

It’s not always easy to keep up with your social media accounts; you need to frequently upload content, while at the same time engaging with your customers on each platform. Most social platforms have schedulers you can use, in order to plan your content ahead to be shared automatically in the future. There are also some social media management solutions that support scheduling of multiple platforms at one go, saving you time and allowing you to focus on your other tasks.
